COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Gas tests are performed to ensure that the environment in which we work is safe from the hazards of combustible or toxic gases, and that the worksite contains sufficient oxygen such that it is safe to breathe. Gas testing involves testing for toxic and flammable gases using portable gas detection equipment, and is an integral part of establishing a safe system of work in the workplace. This course is designed to ensure that personnel preparing for a gas tester role are equipped with the knowledge and skill to conduct gas tests for oxygen levels, flammable and toxic gases safely.
COURSE CONTENT:
- Preparation for gas testing
- The hazards of operations within an oxygen deficient, toxic or flammable environment.
- Working within the permit to work system.
- Selection of suitable gas detector and pre-start checks.
- Calibrating the instruments used in atmospheric testing.
- The range and frequency of test.
- Determination of acceptable levels of flammable and toxic gases.
- Testing gas using testing equipment.
- Monitoring and retesting.
- Interpreting gas readings and documenting the results.
METHODOLOGY:
Power Point presentation, Practical demonstrations, Film Show, training handout.
CERTIFICATION: On successful completion of the course, each participant will be issued with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) Approved Advanced Authorized Gas Tester Certificate.
