
COURSE OVERVIEW: The goal of a caregiver course is to equip caregivers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to provide high-quality care and support to individuals in need.
COURSE CONTENT:
- Introduction to Care giving: Definition, roles, and responsibilities
- Understanding Older Adults: Aging process, physical and cognitive changes
- Safety and Emergency Procedures: First aid, CPR, and emergency response
- Personal Care: Assisting with daily living activities (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and toileting
- Medication Management: Administering medications, monitoring, and recording
- Nutrition and Hydration: Meal preparation, dietary needs, and hydration techniques
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication, active listening, and conflict resolution
- Caregiver Self-Care: Stress management, burnout prevention, and seeking support
- Ethical and Legal Considerations: Confidentiality, boundaries, and legal requirements
- Specialized Care: Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, chronic illness, and disability support
The course may also cover additional topics, such as:
– Assistive devices and technology
– Incontinence care
– Wound care
– Pain management
– End-of-life care
METHODOLOGY:
Power Point presentation, Practical demonstrations, Film Show, training handout.
CERTIFICATION: On successful completion of the course, each participant will be issued with the ACA & CPD accredited caregiver certificate.
